Childless" women have been burned as witches, persecuted as lesbians, have been refused the right to adopt children because they were unmarried. They have been seen as embodiments of the great threat to male hegemony: the woman who is not tied to the family, who is disloyal to the law of heterosexual pairing and bearing. These women have nonetheless been expected to serve their term for society as missionaries, nuns, teachers, nurses, maiden aunts; to give, rather than sell their labour if they were middle-class; to speak softly, if at all, of women’s condition.
I would add to this librarian as well. Since ancient times, women as virgins, like the famed Vestal Virgins served also as librarians of the state and for a long time, it was a profession to which virginal women could aspire, since they were still serving the the world as a whole.
Then, women were forced from the working world and when they were allowed back in, to serve as librarians they were allowed, but only under the leadership of the ‘more intelligent and capable’ men. (via drdandy)

She won’t do anything else. I’ve tried to take her outside, she doesn’t like the outdoors so she won’t run around. She doesn’t like cat toys, she doesn’t like catnip. Anything normal that cats like she just doesn’t like. (x)
Aaawww I really admire the owner’s dedication to helping her kitty stay active. I mean, she even got the cat a little bitty life jacket!
